Description
This vintage Stan Sparre bird comes from my late father-in-laws collection. He was an avid bird carver as well as a friend of Stan Sparre and purchased many of his works. He respected his workmanship.Stan Sparre was a native of Cape Cod. Stan worked for 30 years in Boston as a trade show exhibit designer. He also received a commission to carve and create dioramas of deep sea life for the New England Aquarium, which were on display there for decades.
In his spare time, Stan continually carved birds, capturing the soul of each bird he so lovingly brought to life in wood. Retirement found his carving full time, creating miniature waterfowl, shorebirds, game birds and songbirds.
This piece is 24 inches high, 16 inches wide at the widest point and carved on one inch thick rough cedar wood possibly red cedar by the colors on the back side. The bird is wood carved and the eye is solid metal which resembles an old nail head. This is very rustic in appearance and would be perfect for the right collector. Stan Sparre signed the front of the sign which you can see in the photo. I have researched and have not come across any other pieces like this. This may be a one of a kind creation. My late father-in-law has Stan Sparre artwork that was personalized and created for him.
