Description
After introducing the 700E Scale sized Hudson in 1937, Lionel introduced 3 very realistic looking Semi-Scale engines in 1938 that featured die cast engine shells with sharp detailing. The 225E was the middle engine of the 3. It used the same boiler front used on the more expensive 226E and 763E, and it shared the same motor with the 226E so it has excellent pulling power and is a great runner. In its 69 year history, Lionel made only 5 engines with machined handrail stanchions instead of cotter pins. They are the 700E, the 763E, the 226E, 225E, and the 1946 726.In 1938 the 225E was painted gunmetal gray and came with a "coffin" tender. In 1939 the 225E transitioned from gray to black and remained black through 1942. The engine was not continued after WW2. It's a personal favorite.
The e-unit of this piece cycles flawlessly and is quieter than most. The boiler front has been replaced and repainted. Everything else is original.
