The die cast Hudson engine and tender are both loaded with incredible details that you won't find on other O Gauge Steam Engines.
Details include turned metal stanchions to hold the handrails in place. No detail was too small to capture, including the swinging brass bell, the coupler lift chain and opening boiler front.
Operating marker lights on both engine and tender, signal this engine's high quality. The distinctive Hudson digital whistle recreates the sounds of steam railroading while the smoke unit produces just the right amount of smoke.
This Hudson Steam Engine also includes both a Scale die cast coupler and an O Gauge die cast coupler to allow for either scale or O Gauge rail operation.
The Hudson Locomotive was born in 1927 when the American Locomotive Company and the New York Central redesigned the 4-6-2 Pacific Steam Engine with a four-wheel trailing truck. The four-wheel truck supported a larger firebox that allowed the Hudson to produce more steam at higher pressures than its Pacific predesessor. The result was faster speeds for the same trains.
The Hudson steam engine was named for the Hudson River that the NYC track followed from New York to Albany. Within 10 years, the NYC had 275 Hudson Steam Engines in Service, the majority of the 500 Hudson Locomotives that once ran in the US.
