    Description

Crown Devon Hand Painted Floral & Black Hair Receiver & Powder Jar C. 1909 - 47
Pretty earthenware hair receiver and potter box / dresser jar. Nicely decorated with pink and red roses with blue  and green leaves, over an overall black background. Marked on the bottom with the pattern number 0760. One of the pieces also has an impressed Ross mark. I have not been able to find any sources that provide dates for this mark, but it was use by Simon Fielding's son Alec Ross Fielding. Alec Ross Fielding joined his father at the Crown Devon factory in 1909 and succeeded his father at his death in 1932 until his own death in 1947. The impressed Ross mark shows up in conjunction with a Crown Devon Fieldings Stoke on Trent England mark used between 1917 and 1930, so while I cannot be sure  when the ROSS mark was first used, it was used prior to Simon's death.
Has some minor crazing typical of British ceramics, and has a weird in manufacture defect to the glaze on the lid to the hair receiver, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks.
The hair receiver measures approximately 4 1/4 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches tall.
The powder jar measures approximately 4 inches wide x 3 1/2 inches tall including the lid.
These are antiques and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display-ability of the pieces.
