OFFICIAL MARINER GIRL SCOUT UNIFORM
FIRST VERSION, #GSM-1 1934 – 1939
Mariner Girl Scouts was deemed official in 1934, and this charming uniform became available.  It is distinctive from the second issue in 1940 because a
white top stitch
was added at that time
along with a few other changes.  In 1944, the buttons were removed from this skirt making this entire uniform different from future sets.  You can also see the much older labels in the top and skirt.  Regarding the “Ivory” buttons, according to #GSM-1:  “The early white buttons, although white to begin with, discolored over the years to an off white (or ivory) color.”  (I’m not sure I agree with that because these buttons seem to be consistent in color unlike color that has faded.)  The Mariner logo on the pocket is EMBROIDERED.  In the future, the blouse pocket had a Mariner patch sewn on.  I do not see any stains, rips or tears.  The skirt has had the waist reduced by taking a large dart-like tuck on the side across from the zipper.  It is well done, and I would hesitate removing it for fear of color change which was common on these very dark blue pieces of cotton suiting.  The waste measures 30 inches now, with approximately a 3.5 inch tuck.
I’ve included a STERLING SILVER Mariner membership pin.  If you do not want it, I’ll take less for this uniform.
