1909 Calendar Plate L.R Davis Kinmundy Illinois by Wm Brunt E. Liverpool Ohio 8"
This is an antique 1909 calendar plate that advertises, " Compliments of L.R. Davis Kinmundy, Illinois". The plate measures 8 1/2" and features red rose motif with gold scalloped edges. The maker's mark on the back reads, " The WM Brunt Pottery Co. East Liverpool, Ohio USA...Semi Vitreous Porcelain". The plate has no cracks but has everyday wear and scuffs as would be expected of an item of this age.

The story of Wm Brunt Pottery is also of interest. William Brunt Senior left the oppression and starvation of many pottery workers in mid-1800's England and headed for America in 1842. He and sons set up pottery company in East Liverpool, Ohio where many other potters relocated.  There was lots of good clay there and Ohio River a means of transport. The Ohio River Valley area was an important new pottery making area in the day. I imagine this plate is a later production item when his sons running business.
